Rosendo G.
Tavera
March 24, 1938 – May 27, 2023
Rosendo Tavera, 85, was a devoted husband and father, as well as a brother, cousin, uncle and friend to many. He left to be with our Lord on May 27, 2023. This is called living his "fifth day" in the Catholic Cursillo movement of which he was a member of since 1961.
Rosendo was born in Dallas, Texas on March 24, 1938. He was preceded in death by his mother, Maria Elsie Tavera, and brother Santiago Espinoza. He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Olga Medrano Tavera; his daughter, Diana (Marcos) Gutierrez; sister Maria Gomez; and brother Johnny Tavera.
From a young age, he worked as a migrant farmworker with his family and then moved to San Antonio, Texas, in the 1950s where he worked construction. He was employed at Du-Mor Enterprises for many years, retiring in 2003.
He was an avid music lover and dancer. This served him well as one day while at El Ranchito dance hall, he met the beautiful lady who was to become his wife. As Rosendo and Olga grew older together, the love story never changed, and you could find them dancing even as they cleaned house! He was very strong in his Catholic faith, and along with his wife, they were part of the charismatic prayer group at St. Vincent de Paul. An incredibly blessed moment for him was when he had the honor of being selected as an usher for Pope John Paul II's visit to San Antonio in 1987. He was a loyal Houston Astros fan and enjoyed every baseball game he could possibly watch. He also loved the beach and made many wonderful memories with his family on their yearly trips to South Padre Island.
Rosendo was a quiet, gentle-natured man who also had a wonderful sense of humor and will be deeply missed by those closest to him. The family would like to thank all those who continue to pray for Rosendo's family and loved ones during this season.
