Obituary

Roy Solis Guzman went to be with the Lord on July 31, 2022, at the age of 87.

Roy was born on June 19, 1935, in San Antonio, Texas to the late Patricia Solis and Raymond P. Guzman. He grew up in a loving family, one of six. Roy was a proud United States Marine Corpsman. He served in the Korean War and was discharged as a Sgt. 1 st Class. He would later spend thirty-eight years at ABF Freight in Fort Smith Arkansas before officially retiring.

Roy and his wife Jo-Ann shared a twenty-four-year marriage and adventure together. He was a proud father of three, his two sons Guy Anthony Guzman and Dean Matthew Guzman and a daughter Sandra Ann Avitua. Roy liked singing, dancing and playing the guitar. He especially liked being outside in his garden. He loved watching old westerns from the golden age of films. Roy enjoyed the simple pleasures of life; great conversations, making someone smile, and feeling hopeful for the future of those he knew.

He inspired those around him to be better individuals. His capacity for generosity knew no bounds. He was someone who would help anyone in need with support, encouragement, and guidance. Roy loved when family and friends would get together to share a few laughs, stories, and have a margarita or two. Those times exist in our memories and will be cherished forever. As the greatest role model we knew, he will be missed tremendously.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Raymond P. Guzman and Patricia Solis.

He is survived by his wife Jo-Ann B. Guzman; children, Guy Anthony Guzman, Dean Matthew Guzman, and Sandra Ann Avitua; siblings, Ramon S. Guzman, Robert S. Guzman, Rudy S. Guzman, Rosemary S. Luna, and Rachel Rodriguez; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great great-grandchildren, in addition to many extended family and friends.

Family and friends will meet on Monday, August 15, 2022, at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery (Shelter one) for interment with full military honors at 11:00 am.
