Roy
Roque
July 31, 1957 – June 8, 2025
Roy Gonzalez Roque was born July 31st 1957, to parents Isabel and Epifanio Roque, the second of 3 children. Roy grew up on the Southside of San Antonio, having rock fights with the neighborhood kids and, as a young man, drag racing in his pearl white '67 Chevy Impala; his little sister cheering in the passenger seat. He and his sister, Isabel, also enjoyed making their mother angry by playing football in the rain and mud in the backyard with the neighborhood kids. As a father he made memories playing basketball with his sons, grandsons and of course, neighborhood kids. Roy was an avid Dallas Cowboys and San Antonio Spurs fan. A graduate of South San High School, Roy found his first love in cars, it was through his work and tinkering with hot rods that he learned the worth of hard work. The process of trial and error, and the rewarding hum of a clean revving engine instilled in him a persistence and drive to get the job done, despite how hard the road ahead may be. No stranger to hardship, Roy was a believer in learning lessons the hard way, but rarely made the same mistake twice.
Roy was a driver by trade, but his calling was as a DJ where he truly expressed his creativity and passion for music. Music was his color and dance floors his canvas, where he would artfully keep cumbia lines and slow dances going well into the night. When he was not behind the wheel of a car, DJ booth, or a laptop, he was likely riding his motorcycle being inspired to be behind a DJ booth or laptop.
He met the woman who would love him the rest of his life, and his dearest friend, Florence, in 1987 and they went on to build a beautiful life together. His family will remember his love as a stern voice when the going got tough and well-timed jokes when the light got dark.
Roy passed, as he wanted to; peacefully, in his sleep and near family on June 8th, 2025. He has joined his mother and father in eternal rest.
