Obituary

Ruben Montoya, 54, passed away Friday morning, December 23, 2022, after a difficult battle with cancer. He was born on February 1, 1968, in Chicago, Illinois, to his parents, Aurora and Ramon Montoya, Sr.

Through marriage, Ruben and Deborah fully committed to the vows they gave each other; his passing marks remembrance of the words, until death do us part, as two high school sweethearts prepare for a new way of life. Ruben's passion was his family with whom he built them a beautiful life with, a home, and three loving children: Ruben, Dominique, and the late, Priscilla Montoya. He loved when his family came together for gatherings, outings, backyard BBQs; where he was a grill master, and fishing both near and far in their new boat. His capacity for generosity knew no bounds, as he was someone who would help anyone in need with support, encouragement, and guidance. Family and friends were always welcomed in his home and heart. Ruben will always be remembered for being kind, loving, humble, helpful, giving to others, and his endless nurturing love for his family. He will be greatly missed by so many that were touched by his life and love.

Many thanks to all who supported Ruben throughout his journey. His passing is one that can never be fully comprehended and his loss is unmeasurable. Its times such as this one can only be thankful for the year's we had with him; those memories will be remembered always.

In addition to his daughter, he was also preceded in death by his father, Ramon Montoya, Sr.; brother, Ramon Montoya Jr.; paternal grandparents, Elodia (Lola) and Refugio (Cuco) Montoya; and maternal grandparents, Maria Santos Espinoza (Wuela) and Juan Lozano Solis.

Family members include wife, Deborah Montoya; two children, Ruben A Montoya, and Dominique A Montoya; mother, Aurora Montoya; siblings, Margie Alvarado (Richard), Victor Montoya (Julie), Anita Paredes (Carlos); nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and numerous extended family and friends.

The family wishes to extend extreme gratitude to Dr. Kalter and his team at The Start Center for Cancer Care. Thank you for always giving Ruben HOPE and the best of care, for never giving up on him.

The family will receive guests for visitation from 4 pm to 8 pm on Monday, January 2, 2023, at Castillo Funeral Home with a Rosary Service beginning at 6 pm.

A funeral mass will be conducted at 10 am Tuesday, January 3, 2023, at San Juan De Los Lagos Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park where he will be laid to rest next to his beloved daughter Priscilla Montoya.
