Samuel S. Hernandez was called home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on February 7, 2021 at the blessed age of 79. He was born in San Antonio, TX on April 9, 1941 to Teodoro and Refugio Hernandez. Samuel is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Maria S. Hernandez; daughters, Lorraine Hernandez-Johnson, Nancy Valadez (Jose); grandchildren, Jonathan Valadez, Isaac Edwards, Elliana Valadez, Markeshia Edwards, Gracie Valadez; brothers, Ruben Hernandez, Edward Hernandez (Emma), numerous nieces, nephews, brothers and sisters in Christ whom he loved dearly. He is preceded in death by his parents, Hernandez brothers Gilbert, Abel, Arturo, Mario, Armando, Emilio, sister Elva Hernandez, brother Robert Sandoval and son-in-law Darrell Johnson. Samuel was a veteran of the United States Army, but more importantly to him was his service as an Elder for the Saunders Iglesia de Cristo church where he had been a member since early childhood. Brother Sam was known as someone who would never hesitate to help someone in need. He loved and lived his life for God, family and friends and will be eternally missed. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 3, 2021 at Castillo Mission Funeral Home, 520 N General McMullen Dr, San Antonio, TX 78228 from 3:00 pm to 7:30 pm with a Chapel Service at 5:30pm. Internment will be March 4, 2021 at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery at 11:15.
DISCLOSURE: Due to COVID-19 Guidelines, capacity at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery is set at 25, which includes family, pallbearers, mariachi, etc. During your visit, mask/face coverings are required, and you are asked to practice 6' social distancing at all times. If you have tested positive for Covid-19 , or are exhibiting symptoms or in quarantine, you are NOT to attend services at the funeral home, church, and/or cemetery until you have a NEGATIVE result test.
