Samuel Richard
Villarreal
September 4, 1936 – September 12, 2021
Samuel Richard Villarreal, 85, passed away on September 12, 2021, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in San Antonio, Texas, on September 4, 1936 to Pedro and Consuelo Villarreal. He was the youngest and only boy in a family of six children.
Sam was married to his beautiful bride, Santa for 64 years. They were high school sweethearts, married in December of 1956, and they raised five children: Armando (Frances), Richard (Sandra), Nathan (Irene), Cecilia (Jimmy), and Christina (David).
After graduating from Fox Tech High School, Sam enlisted in the United States Army (SP–2 T). After he was honorably discharged, Sam worked at Kelly Air Force Base as an electronic technician until his retirement in 1986. He spent his retirement years doing what he loved: fixing appliances, making tools and gadgets, and building toys, playhouses, doghouses, and any other thing his grandchildren asked for. He was beloved by all his children, and he was a wonderful grandfather to 17 grandchildren, and 17 great grandchildren. His grandchildren (and children) believed "Grandpa can fix anything" and often brought broken items for him to repair, and he always came through for them! He had a wonderful sense of humor, and loved to tell his corny jokes over and over again! He never met a stranger, and would often strike up a conversation with random people everywhere he went. He treasured his family, and looked forward to every holiday, as his house was filled with the aroma of delicious food prepared by his loving wife, and the sounds of his children and grandchildren enjoying each other's company and singing songs together!
Sam was preceded in death by his father, Pedro; his mother, Consuelo; his sisters Lupe Davila, Aurora Herrera, and Rachel Ramos; his brother Pedro: and his grandsons Matthew and Gabriel.
He was loved and will be missed by his wife; his children; grandchildren; sisters Susie and Alice; and numerous nephews, nieces, and friends.
Sam always had a funny way of saying goodbye, so in the words of Sam: "See you later, alligator". "After a while, crocodile", "Ay te watcho", and "Bueno Bye"!
