Obituary

"It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of Santiago Cantu, of San Antonio, TX on January 14th at the age of 77 years. He is preceded in death by his brother, Johnny Cantu and son-in-law, Isaac Flores Jr. Santiago is survived and will be deeply missed by his wife of 54 yrs, Rosalinda Cantu, his daughters, Annetta Flores and Marlah Elliott, son-in-law, George Elliott Jr.. His grandchildren, Christopher Flores & Yesenia Garcia, Andrew Flores, Victoria Elliott, and Emily Elliott. His brothers, Oscar Reyna, Jesus Cantu, and Lupe Cantu, along with numerous other loving relatives and friends. Santiago joined the Army at the age of 21 in 1967 and proudly served in the Vietnam War where he earned the rank of Sgt. In his service to our country, he earned: Good Conduct medal, M-14 Badge, Vietnam Campaign and Service medals, National Defense Service medal, two O/S bars, an Army Commendation medal and was honorable discharge in 1972. "Jimmy" as his wife so affectionately called him was a wonderful and thoughtful man, always putting his family first and when he could, his golf second. He will remain in our hearts forever and may God welcome him into eternal rest with open arms. Our heartfelt thanks goes out to the nurses and doctors at the Audie Murphy VA hospital who cared for him throughout his battle and a special thanks to Dr. Lisa McLauglin-Contreras and Dr. Carol Li who never gave up on giving Dad a fighting chance."
