Teresa De La Garza (1938–2026)
Teresa De La Garza, age 87, passed away in San Antonio, Texas, on April 12, 2026. Born on August 20, 1938, in Mexico, she migrated to the United States in the late 1950s with her husband, Juan De La Garza. After living in Del Rio, the family relocated to San Antonio in the 1960s.
A resident of Lotus Street, Teresa was a devoted homemaker while her husband worked as an 18-wheeler truck driver and construction crane operator. Beyond her home, she was a dedicated grassroots activist for the Democratic Party. From the 1970s through the 1990s, she played a significant role in San Antonio local politics, mobilizing voters and coordinating campaigns to help elect numerous city officials and judges.
Known for her sharp political mind and social nature, Teresa was a fixture at local events. She took great pride in her appearance, always elegantly dressed and accented with carefully chosen makeup and accessories. She held a deep and lifelong love for music and found great joy in attending social gatherings.
Teresa was preceded in death by her husband, Juan. She is survived by her four children: Juan, Beatrice, Linda, and Patricia. Her legacy continues through her nine grandchildren—Brian, Charles, Patricia, Amanda, Virgil, Gabriela, Alexis, Jacky, and Armando—and fourteen great-grandchildren. Her life remains defined by her civic contributions to San Antonio and her unwavering commitment to her family.
