Tomas Ysabel
Garcia
December 21, 1943 – August 9, 2021
If you've ever been hesitant in adding a homemade dessert to your dinner tray at Luby's, don't be. Consider: Tomas Ysabel Garcia who entered eternal life on Monday, August 9 th , 2021. His spirit is carried on by his wife, seven stepchildren, numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, nine siblings, and an extended family of relations and friends from every walk of life. We were blessed to learn many valuable lessons from Tomas during his 77 years, among them: There is always room for dessert. Respect everyone you meet, including yourself. Never give up on yourself. It's never too late to say you're sorry and mean it. If you work together as a team, anything can get accomplished. Tomas proudly retired as a civil servant from Kelly AFB and was immensely proud of his family's military service. He loved spaghetti westerns, the Texas Gulf Coast and Rivers, fishing, Luby's restaurant, and his beloved wife Margaret Galaviz Garcia. He is survived by his children, grandchildren, and siblings whose photos he would share with prospective friends in dialysis: "Cookie"-Ruth Paiz (children Margaret Aguero, Michael Aguero† and Blanca Aguero); Roberta Mendez (husband Richard Mendez, children Veronica Livar, April Venegas, Robert Venegas, and Richard Tomas Mendez); Lucinda Mendiola (husband Adam Mendiola, children Adam Mendiola Jr. and Jade Mendiola); Rosario Cortez†; Luciano Cortez, MSgt. USAF, Ret. (wife Isabella Cortez, children Lauren Cortez and Thomas Cortez, CPT. USA); Robert Cortez (wife Terry Cortez, children Aleta Cortez and Robert Elizondo) Mark Cortez (wife Cece Cortez, children Marcus Cortez, Lorenzo Cortez, Jessica Sosa and Jennifer Chin); siblings Dominga Cuellar, Rosario Villasana, Ruben Garcia, Margarita Majors, Ismael Garcia, Larry Garcia, Jerry Garcia, Sylvia Garcia, Leticia Garcia; and many in-laws, nieces, nephews, friends and family too numerous to list but not forgotten. Friends can visit with Tomas's family at the Castillo Funeral Home on Sunday, August 22 nd , from 3:30 until 7:00 PM with a rosary service at 6:00 PM. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Little Flower on Monday, August 23 rd , 2021 at 10:00 AM, with an internment at San Fernando II Catholic Cemetery
