Tony L. Aguirre passed away peacefully on February 18, 2023 at the age of 75. He was surrounded by the warmth and love of his family. He was born in San Antonio, Texas. On November 26, 1947.
He proudly served his country in the United States Army with a tour in Vietnam, with the 25 th infantry division. He married his high school sweetheart, Cecilia Aguirre and recently celebrated their 55 th Wedding Anniversary.
Tony worked for Coca Cola for 10 years and then went on to complete 32 years of service as a Bus Operator for Via Metropolitan Transit and retired as "VIA's Best", as Tony would like to remind everyone. During his employment at VIA, he was awarded the 1 million mile award and 2 million mile award without an at-fault accident. He also worked part-time operating the River Cruise boats where he enjoyed telling his classic, local and historical stories to tourists. Tony is known by many for always giving a helping hand and giving advice for when you needed to hear it. He had a contagious laugh that can be heard across the room. He treasured the beautiful memories he created with his family throughout his years. He was a big fan of the Dallas Cowboys and San Antonio Spurs. His grandchildren were his whole world, and he did everything for them. He will be missed tremendously by all.
Tony is loved and will be missed by his loving wife Cecilia Aguirre; daughter, Stephanie Aguirre Galan (Ruben Galan), granddaughters, Iliana Galan, Isabella Galan, and Itzadora Galan; sister, Linda Zertuche (Juan Zertuche), nieces, Amanda Valdez and Alyssa Zertuche; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends.
Visitation will take place on Monday, March 6, 2023 from 3:30pm until 8:00pm with a Rosary to begin at 6:00pm. Family and friends will depart at 9:00am on Tuesday, March 7, 2023 for a 9:30 am Mass at Christ the King Catholic Church. Burial to follow at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery, eta 11:15am.
