Obituary

Victor S. Perez, beloved husband, father, brother, uncle and friend, was called to his celestial home on Saturday, April 3, 2021 at the age of 82 and is now resting in the presence of our Heavenly Father.  He was born on March 6, 1939 in Tapachula, Chiapas, Mexico.  He is survived by the love of his life, Maria Teresa Resendiz Perez, whom he married on January 15, 1966, as well as his daughter Martha C. Perez, his brother Agustin Perez Sanchez, his sister Maria Del Consuelo Gloria Perez-Garcia and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents Ascencion Cruz Perez Cervantes and Venancia Sanchez; his grandparents Eduvijes Perez, Maria Camila Cervantes, Manuel A. Sanchez and Maria Manuela Niebla; his brothers Pedro Perez Sanchez, Jose Arturo Perez Sanchez and Jose de Jesus Donato Perez Sanchez; and his sisters Maria Isabel Perez, Gloria Perez Sanchez, Maria del Carmen Amalia Perez-Navarrette and Maria del Refugio Venancia Perez-Davalos.

His deeply rooted and unwavering faith are an example of the legacy Victor leaves behind to those that loved and knew him. He served the Lord as a lector and Holy Communion minister.  His love for Our Lady of Guadalupe is something that will remain near and dear to his family's heart.  The profoundness and conviction with which he prayed was a window to a soul that knew and was humbled by our Lord.

Victor was a fighter.  He fought polio as a child, even when polio robbed him of his ability to walk.  He fought to provide for his family in a new country that he loved, cherished, respected, and of which he became a naturalized citizen in 1985.  He worked for Sunglo as a Service Station Manager until retirement.

As a son of renowned music composer, trumpet player and poet Ascencion "Chon" Cruz Perez, Victor enjoyed and appreciated the fine arts.  Of particular interest to him were music, poetry, and dance.  He also enjoyed the simple things in life; his home, gardening, soccer, boxing and family vacations to South Padre were things he truly enjoyed.  He particularly loved watching the early morning sunrises with the two loves of his life.  His rock collection affirmed his love and appreciation of nature and the beautiful awe-inspiring things created by our Creator.

He was someone who had a quick wit and enjoyed making people laugh with his endless jokes, for which he had quite a talent.  We will miss his smile and contagious laugh.  His ability to draw people into his circle and make them feel as though they had known each other forever was something to be admired. He was someone who was approachable and would lend a friendly ear to anyone in need.

Victor never relented and stayed strong and proud when facing any of life's challenges.  He fought hard against an opponent for which there was no cure, idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, until the last moment. Knowing what destiny laid before him, he was ready to be received by our Lord.

Words cannot express the immense gratitude Victor's family wishes to convey to Dr. Richard Prezas and the staff at Wellmed for the special care and support provided over the years.  In addition, we would like to give a special thanks to Blanca and Perla, providers from Home Instead and Alamo Hospice for the wonderful care provided.

Victor leaves a huge void in all who knew him, especially his family who is comforted in knowing that he is no longer in pain.  He is now in the Lord's presence and has rejoined family and friends who have departed before us.
