YOLANDA "YOLLIE" CASTILLO
June 7, 1966 – July 14, 2022
Yollie "Yaya" was a very giving and big-hearted daughter, sister, aunt, niece, cousin and friend, born on June 7, 1966, to Maria T. Gamboa and Carlos Castillo in San Antonio, Texas.
She graduated from Fox Tech Class of 1984, and met many friends playing every sport you could think of. She also met many friends playing softball, starting with the Wild Bunch and ending with K.M.A., and others in between.
Yollie enjoyed auctions, bingo and especially scavenger hunting with her sister, Lulu. It was a passion they shared. She enjoyed watching any sport but took pride and made sure her kids did too in watching the Olympics and her Texas Longhorns. She loved to gamble whether it be in Vegas or Eagle Pass.
She was our glue that would schedule family gatherings and you had better made sure to bring money for quarter scores or loteria.
Yollie was a very strong person that fought a courageous battle of cancer for 8 years and nine months.
She is preceded in death by great-grandparents, Juanita & Carlos Sanchez:, grandparents, Elisa & Jose Morales; grandparents, Juan & Angelita Castillo; aunt, Yolanda Morales; aunt & uncle, Eva & Frank Lopez; aunt, Nena Rodriguez; great-nephew, Jonathan R. Castillo; and numerous other aunts and uncles.
Yollie is survived by her mother, Maria T. Gamboa; father, Carlos Castillo; sisters, Dolores Castillo, Yvette Contreras (Robert); brother, Juan Gamboa (Rachel); "her kids" nieces, and nephews, Jonathan, Anastacia (Chris), Samantha (Frankie), Niah, Eddie Ray, Amber (Carlos), Jacob, Kaitlyn, Charisma, Aidan, Ariel, Azalea and Arlo; her confidant Jennifer McAllister (Mike); her beloved "Papo" Landry; and numerous loving aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
We would like to thank doctor Amy Lang and the many doctors and nurses at the start center that fought by her side.
Visitation begins at 4:00pm on Friday, July 29, 2022, at Castillo Funeral Home, 520 N. General McMullen, with the Rosary beginning at 6:00 pm.
We will meet for the Funeral Mass on Saturday, July 30, 2022, at 10:00 am at Christ the King Catholic Church, 2610 Perez Street, 78207.
The family would like to thank St. Vincent de Paul of St. Mathew's and everyone for your love, support, and prayers during their time of loss. She will be missed tremendously.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Yollie Castillo's honor to San Antonio Humane Society.
