Salas
November 14, 1946 – August 24, 2023
Beloved Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, Sister, Aunt, and Friend Yolanda O. Salas entered into eternal rest on August 24th, 2023, at the age of 76. She was born November 14, 1946, to the late Manuel Banda Ortiz and Anastacia Trevino Ortiz. She had six sisters and one brother, one half sister and one-half brother. Yolanda married Arthur C. Salas in 1966 and had four children. She was a loving, caring and devoted mother, wife and friend, always thinking of others first. "To know her was to love her". Yolanda was a caretaker by nature and helped care for her grandkids, nieces, nephews, her parents, husband and many others who needed her support. She was a devout Catholic and a woman of strong faith. Yolanda's catholic faith was the foundation for her giving and loving nature. Early on Yolanda was heavily involved in her kid's schools starting as a room mom, PTC president, Church festival Chairwoman, Guadalupanas, sporting events, field trips, she never missed an event. She was very active in raffles, dances and fundraisers for both St. Mary Magdalen and St. Alphonsus Church. The famous Salas poker booth was always a crowd pleaser. Yolanda worked tirelessly to support her community.
Yolanda loved to travel and has been all over the world. She took many trips to the Holy Land with her friends from both churches which brought her much joy. She loved to explore different countries from Thailand, Greece, Spain, Turkey, Bolivia, Italy, France, Portugal, Germany, and all over Mexico. She also enjoyed several cruises with her family throughout the Caribbean. For many years Yolanda and her family participated in the annual church pilgrimage to Monterrey, Mexico in honor of Our Lady Guadalupe. Traveling throughout the United States from the East Coast to Hawaii, there were few places not traveled. She also enjoyed her short road trips as the lead driver to various casinos with her family and compadres.
Back home she maintained close friendships with her life-long friends from Lanier High School. Attending dozens of dances, reunions and events to celebrate with her friends and family. She enjoyed attending the "Classicos" monthly lunch group of Lanier Alumni. She was always keeping herself busy. Whether it was a dance class, lunch with friends or visiting family, Yolanda was always on the go. She lived her life celebrating life.
She is preceded in death by her loving parents, Manual Banda Ortiz and Anastacia Trevino Ortiz. Her sisters Maria Dolores Ortiz, Maria Margarita Ortiz, Albert Ortiz (Half-brother), Margaret Ortiz Yanez (Half-sister). Yolanda is survived by her husband of 57 years Arthur Carvajal Salas. Her loving children; John Salas, Janice Gonzales (Greg Husband), Michael Salas, Timothy Salas. Her Grandchildren; Victoria Salas, Gregory Gonzales, Arthur Zachary Salas, Kristin Salas, Andrew Gonzales, Natalie Gonzales, Timothy Miles Salas and Isabel Salas. Her great grandchildren; James Ramirez, Olivia Le'vesque, Sofia Parker. Her siblings; Santa Ortiz Burns, Josie Ortiz Lopez (Eduardo Husband), Terry Ortiz Kist, Oralia Ortiz Rodriguez, Manuel Ortiz Jr. Many cousins, in-laws, nieces, nephews and God children were all apart of her life.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 6, 2023 from 4:00pm to 6:00pm with Rosary to begin at 6:00pm at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church. Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, September 7, 2023 at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church on 1202 South Zarzamora St., at 9:30am followed by Interment at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery 1520 Harry Wurzbach Rd. San Antonio TX 78209.
