Rafael Arredondo
November 23, 1948 – April 10, 2026
With heavy hearts and deep sorrow, we announce the passing of Rafael Arredondo, who entered eternal rest on April 10, 2026, at the age of 77. He was born on November 23, 1948, in Labor Vieja, Moctezuma, San Luis Potosí, Mexico, and his life became a powerful story of resilience, faith, and unconditional love.
Rafael was preceded in death by his beloved parents and siblings Jose Angel Arredondo(father), Maria Cresencia Arredondo(mother), Andres Arredondo, J. Zacarias Arredondo, Dario Arredondo and Maria D. Sepulveda. He is survived by his other siblings Domitila A. Garcia, Jose J. Arredondo and Juanita A. Spurlock.
He leaves behind a beautiful legacy through his children: Melissa Arredondo-Mayes (fiancé Michael R. Zinna), Rafael Arredondo Jr. (wife April L. Arredondo), Petra A. Arredondo (husband Josh H. Hollis), Adrian Arredondo, and Leticia A. Valero (husband Christian R. Valero).
He was a proud and devoted grandfather and great-grandfather to many who brought immense joy and purpose to his life. Each of them carried a special place in his heart, and he cherished every moment spent with his growing family.
Rafael was the true definition of strength and perseverance. He came to the United States from Mexico with nothing—facing homelessness and uncertainty—but through determination, hard work, and faith, he built a life not only for himself, but for generations to come. He worked laying brick, pouring his sweat and dedication into every job, and eventually became a proud U.S. citizen and the founder of Arredondo Construction Company.
Alongside former spouse Jinobeba, he raised five children, instilling in them the values of hard work, humility, faith, and family. His sacrifices and guidance shaped the lives of his children and grandchildren in ways that will never be forgotten.
Rafael found happiness in life's simple blessings. He loved playing baseball and soccer in his younger years, spending time outdoors, and trying new Mexican restaurants. Above all, he was deeply devoted to his Catholic faith from a young age, a devotion that remained unwavering until his final days.
He was more than a father and grandfather—he was a mentor, a protector, and a source of wisdom to all who knew him. Many sought his advice, and he gave it freely, always with love, honesty, and humor. His presence brought comfort, his words brought guidance, and his life inspired those around him.
Though our hearts are broken, we find peace in knowing his legacy of love, strength, and faith will live on through all of us.
Visitation will be held on Monday, April 20th, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Castillo Funeral Home. Funeral services will take place on Tuesday, April 21st, at 10:00 a.m., with burial to follow at San Jose Cemetery.
Following the burial services on April 21st, family and friends are invited to gather at 1118 Alametos, San Antonio, TX 78201, to celebrate his life, legacy, and the love he leaves behind.
The Arredondo family extends their heartfelt gratitude for the continued prayers, love, and support during this difficult time.
